Once the cookies are made and cooled, you are ready to set up your decoration station.
If you don’t want to mess with making your own frosting and piping bags, grab a few tubes of colorful frosting at the grocery store.
Make sure there is a spread of colorful sprinkles so that the kiddos can fully customize their gingerbread man.
Let the kids have at it with the cookies and decorating supplies. Before the eating begins, the kiddos can walk around and decide on an award for each cookie such as the craziest cookie or the most colorful!
Then, it’s time to dig in!
What’s a kids party without a good craft? The Gingerbread Printable Party Packet includes craft pages for kiddos to build their own gingerbread man!
The kids can color the gingerbread man and accessories whatever color they choose or the pages can be printed on brown cardstock.
The kids will choose eyes, a mouth, and any other accessories they would like to glue on their gingerbread man. These adorable crafts are perfect to display on the fridge, in a window, or on a bulletin board.
The Gingerbread Printable Party Packet makes your gingerbread party easy and adorable!
In the packet, I included a large banner that says “A Gingerbread Party.” For my personal party, I printed out the banner on cardstock and cut out each piece. Then, I taped each piece to a long piece of twine.
Next, I cut out each of the candy and gingerbread men illustrations. These could be attached to shish kabob sticks and made into centerpieces, taped to a walls of the party room, or spread out over the decorated tables.
I chose to make mine into an additional little banner to decorate the front of the table. Each piece was taped to twine, and I have say, it turned out quite cute.
There are so many gingerbread games and activities that can be played during this party. Here are a few ideas.
Build a Trap
In the book, How to Catch the Gingerbread Man, the children are building different traps to catch the Gingerbread Man, but he keeps escaping!
Your kids are on a mission to build a successful gingerbread trap. Each pair of kids can use the planning worksheet provided in the Gingerbread Party Printable Packet. On the worksheet, the children can sketch out the six steps they need to take to build a trap for the Gingerbread Man.
Using only the materials you choose provide (popsicle sticks, rubber bands, paper clips, etc.), each pair will build their trap under a time limit.
Once the time is up, everyone can vote on which trap they believe would be successful in trapping the Gingerbread Man.
The printable party packet includes a large picture of a gingerbread man. Cut out the Gingerbread Man and attach it to a stick.
Hide the Gingerbread Man somewhere in your party area. Design clues that will lead kids to where the Gingerbread Man is hiding. Will they be able to catch him?
The Gingerbread House Challenge
This activity is based on the book The Plan for the Gingerbread House. In the story, a group of kids are faced with a challenge to build a gingerbread house that can stand and is big enough for the gingerbread man and woman inside.
Let’s bring this story to life!
If it is a large party, break the up into smaller groups of 2-3. Provide them with gingerbread house kits and two gingerbread men cookies.
Each group must design, build, and decorate a gingerbread house that holds the two gingerbread men cookies inside and can remain standing for 30 seconds.
Set the timer and let the groups get to work! Who can successfully meet the challenge?
I hope that you are inspired to create your own gingerbread party for your kiddos this holiday season. The possibilities are endless and the memories are guaranteed!
